Last night God answered a LOT of my questions through the sweetest Belleville local Amanda and I had the privilege of meeting. As we pulled into Taco Bell in Fairview Heights, I saw a woman struggling to walk across the parking lot from the bus stop. She finally made it over to a lamp post where she held on to catch her breath, and I began to feel the desire to help.
As my wife, Amanda spotted her, we heard her scream in defeat "STOOOOP!" to a city transit bus she was missing again nearby. Her exhaustion was keeping her from getting to the bus before it would pull away and it was too dark for anyone to know she was there to wait for. She eventually found herself resting on a nearby curb.
Amanda and I decided we could no longer just sit aside and wonder how we could help, so we drove over to her and asked if she could use a ride.
As it turned out, she had also recently been in a car accident and did not have the money to pay for the full damages yet. I could relate, as I just got into an accident with my Ford Focus and I had been feeling stranded for a good, solid month. Her situation was slightly worse - she didn't have a second car.
She couldn't have been more relieved for the ride. I didn't blame her. I've been desperate before, not knowing where to turn and feeling like there was no one near me to help.
In that ride, Amanda and I got to meet another follower of God and her story was filled with a lot of prayer requests. Kendra is trying to cope with a past involving that reck, injuries to her back, a rape that happened years ago, and struggles to make ends meet being a self employed graphic designer and Christian Comedian. Throughout her most recent struggles Kendra lost her laptop to power failure, and even the trips to the nearest library are proving to be a struggle.
When we got to her house and dropped her off, she gave her goodbyes and told us, for probably the tenth time, how bless Amanda and I are to have each other, how pretty my wife is, and asked us to pray for her to find an honest man and hope in life.
She was a reminder to always be thankful and trust in God, and the Family of God supports each other and prays for each other. We're going to pray for each other, because that's the faith we can share with each other as Brothers and sisters in Christ, but there is more to this story. What does all of this mean for the call I've been feeling God having on my heart all of these years, when I knew He was tugging but felt like I could completely hear Him?
I will be sharing that with you all soon, with a more...hands on...blog. I will be starting a new blog so that you can follow what I will be making, who I will be teaming up with, and who we will be reaching in a ministry calling I finally feel confident in knowing God has laid on my heart.
I pray Kendra is someone God continues to remind me about, that we always have opportunities to help each other, encourage each other, reach out to each other, and Love each other. All I can say about it right now is "It's About Time".
